IT AMC Dubai: What It Actually Covers and How to Choose a Contract

Most offices only think about IT support the moment something breaks - a server down, a laptop that won't boot, a network outage mid-meeting. An IT AMC flips that: instead of paying per emergency, you pay a fixed annual rate to keep the problem from happening as often, and to have a guaranteed response when it does. Here's what to actually weigh before signing one.

What an IT AMC Actually Covers

Proactive maintenance, not just fixes. A real AMC includes scheduled checks, patching, and monitoring - the work that prevents an outage, not just the call you make after one.

A guaranteed response and resolution SLA. Instead of "we'll get to it when we can," an AMC contract defines how fast an issue gets acknowledged and resolved.

Hardware and software support together. Servers, networks, workstations, and - depending on the contract - CCTV and biometric systems can all sit under one AMC rather than separate vendors.

What's not included matters just as much: most AMCs don't cover new hardware purchases outright, though a good provider will still help with procurement. Confirm this upfront rather than assuming.

Comprehensive vs. Non-Comprehensive AMC

Comprehensive AMC bundles hardware replacement/parts into the contract, so an unexpected failure doesn't mean a separate invoice. Non-Comprehensive AMC covers labor, support, and maintenance, but parts or replacement hardware are billed separately. Comprehensive costs more upfront but removes the surprise-bill risk; Non-Comprehensive is cheaper if your hardware is newer and less likely to fail.

In-House Engineer vs. AMC vs. Break-Fix

An in-house IT hire makes sense once you have enough day-to-day ticket volume to justify a full salary - but one person can't cover every specialty (networking, security, servers) the way a provider's team can. Break-fix (calling someone only when something breaks) is the cheapest on paper and the most expensive in practice: no prevention, no SLA, and you're negotiating urgency pricing during an actual emergency. An AMC sits between the two - a fixed, predictable cost with a defined response time, without carrying a full-time hire.

What to Actually Consider Before Signing

Remote-only or on-site included? Some AMCs are remote-support-only; confirm whether on-site visits are included or billed separately, especially if your team can't troubleshoot hardware issues themselves.

Response and resolution SLA. Ask for the actual numbers - how fast is an issue acknowledged, and what's the target time to resolve it, not just "fast response."

Can it flex with your setup? A good AMC is customized to what you actually run - servers, network gear, number of workstations - not a flat package regardless of your environment.

Reporting and visibility. A ticketing portal and regular support reports mean you can see what's actually being done, not just trust that it is.

Switching providers mid-year. If you already have an IT provider, a proper onboarding process should let you switch without a gap in coverage - confirm this is part of the offer.

How CODE3 Approaches an IT AMC

Every AMC starts with understanding what you actually run - servers, network, workstations, and where CCTV or access control systems sit alongside it - before proposing a contract. From there: a defined response and resolution SLA, a ticketing portal so you can see every request and its status, and a dedicated team rather than a rotating queue. We support businesses across Dubai and the wider UAE, backed by 30+ engineers and 1,500+ completed projects.

Not sure whether Comprehensive or Non-Comprehensive fits your setup, or what a fair SLA actually looks like? Get in touch and we'll size an AMC to what you actually run, not a generic package.
